Giving back to your community by investing in its talent and education is one way to grow Michigan’s economy, one city at a time. Online Tech is exemplifying that approach by awarding two $1,000 scholarships to two University of Michigan students in the field of information technology and healthcare IT as a result of our 2012 Data Security Scholarship. The students were selected from a range of candidates with an interest in cloud computing, data security, disaster recovery, colocation and similar topics.
Daniel Mayer and Paige Grettenberger, both University of Michigan students, are the recipients of Online Tech’s 2012 Data Security Scholarships.
Grettenberger answered the essay question, “What do you see as the most serious mobile security threat facing consumers and/or companies and why?” by explaining three most common ways a mobile device can be compromised through Bluetooth technologies.
Grettenberger is a sophomore engineering student at Michigan. The 2011 Haslett High School graduate developed an interest in data security while completing a summer internship with the Information Security department at Delta Dental Insurance.
Mayer, a 2005 Clarkston High School graduate, is part of the inaugural class at Michigan’s new Master of Health Informatics program. After graduating from U-M with a dual major in biology and economics, Mayer spent two years working for healthcare IT firm Epic Systems Corporation before returning to continue his education.
Online Tech maintains strong ties to the University of Michigan community as co-founder Yan Ness and co-CEO Mike Klein both attended the university for undergraduate and business school studies.

Online Tech and Comcast Business Class will be co-hosting an invite-only customer appreciation luncheon at the 2013 North American International Auto Show on January 16, 2013 from 12:30-2 PM ET in Detroit, Michigan. This event is hosted on one of the two industry preview days open to the media and select guests before the public show opens Jan. 19.
