The title of the conference is “Navigating the Future of Electronic Health Records”, with a focus on the HITECH Act within the Michigan health care industry. The HITECH Act, a portion of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, provides Medicare and Medicaid incentives for hospitals and physicians to adopt certified electronic health records (EHRs). The act also expands the HIPAA Privacy and Security Rules and increases penalties for HIPAA violations.
Klein’s presentation, “Security & Compliance for Processing Facilities,” will specifically discuss the impact of HIPAA compliance on data centers, including the administrative, physical and technical safeguards Online Tech has in place. Online Tech’s data centers are independently HIPAA audited against all standards and citations of the HITECH Act to protect patient data.

Its fall conference is geared toward professionals in the health care and information technology industries as well as anyone interested in health information technology issues.
Mike Klein will join a panel of industry experts to discuss cloud computing on September 27 at Lawrence Technological University. “Cloud Computing: Sunshine or Rain For Your Business” will address how the cloud can help your business, security and best practices when selecting a cloud computing provider. On a state-wide level, the panel of experts will also address what economic opportunity cloud computing means for the State of Michigan. The panel will be moderated by WWJ Newsradio 950 Technology Editor Matt Roush.
